Blackie Stratocaster

Blackie Stratocaster
Fender c.1956/57 Stratocaster Serial #20036
Purchased by Guitar Center, Inc at the Crossroads Guitar Auction, Christies, New York, 24 June 2004, for $959,500
Eric Clapton personally made this legendary instrument from the best elements of three vintage Fender Stratocaster guitars he acquired in 1970. Affectionately referred to by EC as "Blackie", the guitar was first seen publicly at Clapton's Rainbow Concert of 1973 and played as his main guitar until the Live Aid festival of 1985.
During Eric's 35 years of ownership, "Blackie" was featured on more album covers than perhaps any other musical instrument in history –including 'Slowhand', 'Blackless', 'Just One Night', and the 'Crossroads' box-sets. Film credits include 'The Last Waltz' and 'Live Now'.
Retired by Eric years ago, lovingly worn from decades of playing, touring, cigarette burns and belt-buckles, Blackie's legend continues as probably the world's most famous and valuable electric guitar.
